Lighting worthy of its historical status
Solo Sokos Hotel Torni brings light to the surrounding streetscape and stands out as a landmark in Helsinki city center with its new facade lighting. The facade lighting serves as a means to communicate the renovations made inside the building.
Opened in 1931, Helsinki’s historic Hotel Torni reopened its doors renewed in spring 2022. Upon its completion, it was Helsinki’s tallest building and a skyscraper of its time. It remains one of Finland’s tallest buildings. The hotel also includes the Art Nouveau-style former residential building Kyllikki, which was incorporated into the hotel in the 1980s. The complex is historically significant and prominently located in Helsinki’s urban landscape.

The goal was for the building to receive lighting worthy of its status. The building’s first four floors and the 9-story tower rising above them were highlighted elegantly and with dignity using warm white light.
The central location of the site and its architectural and cultural-historical significance required special attention, but the result is a prominent feature in the night-time streetscape of Helsinki’s city center.
