Helsinki Metro Stations won the Lighting Design Award of the Year 2019 in Finland and represents Finland also in the Nordic Lyspris competition. This is already the third lighting design award given to this project.
“Helsinki metro stations is the western part of the metro from Helsinki to Espoo, which consists of eight underground stations. Each station has its own identity, consisting of architecture and lighting. At the stations, lighting and architecture work together seamlessly. In some of the stations the lighting and light art have their own specific role and in some the lighting retreats and subtly supports architecture. Lighting is energy efficient and no-glare and is created with modern technology. Powerful lighting on the edge of the quay ensures safe movement of passengers between the train and the station bridge. The architectural lighting implementation of Helsinki metro stations is a refreshing exception to the usual metro station lighting. The high-quality environment makes passengers feel that design has not only been functional, but also increased their comfort.” – Opinion of the jury
